The Widows Offering

The Widows Offering - Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

The widow in the Bible gave all that she had. A lot of Americans (everyone who can afford to buy a computer and read this blog!) are comparably wealthy.

You may not be a billionaire, or even make 6 figures, but I think most of us would agree that we are WAY wealthier than the poor widow who only had two copper coins to live on.

Yet, she gave all she had, but what do we give? Sure we may give 10% to the church, but that isn't near as much as what she gave.

She didn't give 75% not even 99%, she gave 100% of her earnings to the church.

Jesus admired this act enough to point it out to his disciple's as a lesson to us and them! Are we not called to apply God's word to our life? That doesn't mean you have to give everything away, but it does mean that we ALL need to make some changes.

We could probably spare a dollar or two a day, couldn't we? Than why not sponsor a child?

All it takes is a few minutes to write a letter every now and then, and 35 or so dollars a month.

Not to bad is it?
