In India over 300M people live in poverty. One of the poorest regions is Mumbai with over 22M people, a surprisingly high 70% live in slums.
Slums have over crowded bathrooms with exposed sewage that contaminates the water sources. The slums are home to over 7 Million children under the age of 14. Because of the lack of food, families have to call even the youngest members of the family to work.
Small, undernourished, children at the age of 5 and 6 are pressured to work to provide for the family. Some of the jobs they do are things like, cleaning up sewage, picking through rags, and other menial jobs around Mumbai.
It's estimated that 1/3 of the poor around the world live in India, and only 10% of workers work on a regular basis. The rest get jobs where they can.
It's also estimated that 700,000 Indians die from diarrhea alone, and almost 50% of India's children suffer from malnutrition.
