A Little Late But...

So I just became an official blogger for Compassion, but I'm a little late on all the assignments so I decided to go through the older ones and do 'em! Better late than never right? So this assignment was supposed to be for Mothers Day (May 12), but I'll go ahead and do it now.

So the assignment is "To write something from the perspective of a mother raising a child in extreme poverty." So here goes nothing!

"I am a single parent raising three children in Ugunda. My husband left me a few years ago, he still visits ever now and then, but I don't see much of him. I live in an adobe, with some thin plastic sheets for the roof, it's a small house, maybe 240 square feet at most. We don't have a bathroom, or any bedrooms, so me and my children sleep on the floor.

I usually wake up before my children do judging from where the sun is, it's probably around four. I go out to the river that our village shares. I bring the plastic pitcher I found laying on the river bank with me, and scoop up some of the water. The river flows from the ocean, so a lot of debris flows with it. I pick out some of the trash and head back home.

My children are awake, and ready to walk the long trek to the Compassion Developmental Center. I wish I could give them something to eat, but we don't have anything.

One of my children stay behind, she has Malaria. The Compassion Staff are working with us to give her some essential medication. She's coming along fine, but I'm still scared. So many of the children in my village have died from Malaria.

I wonder about my children, hoping they'll be alright on the mile walk to the School."

So many mothers out there live lives like this, and others face worse, but you can help! By giving ongoing support to the Child Survival Program, or by making a one time donation.
